Course Overview
Our Diploma in Education and Training (Level 5) meets the needs of trainee teachers and trainers, including individuals not currently teaching and training but who meet the practice requirements, those currently teaching and training (including those who have just begun teaching and training) and individuals currently working as assessors who wish to achieve a teaching qualification. All students must meet the practice requirements, including the observed and assessed practice, of the qualification.
The diploma in education and training course will give students the opportunity to gain a wide range of education and teaching knowledge tied to practical skills gained through research, independent study, directed study and workplace scenarios. Students will gain specialist knowledge, employability, and transferable skills to further their career prospects.
Our diploma in education and training can be used as a starting point to work towards various professional memberships and students will have the skills and knowledge to progress and gain credits against the standards of bachelor degrees in higher education institutions.
There are no formal examinations required for this course. Assessments are undertaken in various ways:
– Presentation
– Writing an assignment
– Analysing a case study
– Completing a portfolio of evidence
– Writing reports
You will be required to work in your own time to complete research, homework tasks or group work. Self-study is vital to your success on this course and lecturers will give you guidance on how best to approach this throughout the study period.
The learner will need to achieve a minimum of 120 credits, of which 61 credits must be at level 5 or above. In addition, you will be required to undertake 100 teaching practice hours.

Academic Requirements
A bachelor’s degree with a minimum classification of 2:2
Written Assessment (500 words)
Admissions Interview (8-10 minutes) – will need to demonstrate a keen interest in teaching and learning
English requirements
B2 CEFR level – IELTS at 6.0 minimum or an equivalent test. Minimum in each component 5.5. – BKSB is not acceptable.
Students whose first language is not English but have a first degree from the UK need not present an IELTS test.

Enhanced DBS Check – Students are required to undertake an Enhanced DBS check before they start the programme
All candidates, whether pre-service or in-service must have access to 100 hours of teaching (volunteer teaching, paid / unpaid teaching, part time / full time teaching).
Funding your study
You can apply for help with your fees from the government by visiting gov.uk/studentfinance. This could take the form of a Tuition Fee Loan, Maintenance Loan or Maintenance Grant. A Tuition Fee Loan will cover the cost of your up-front fees, and will be paid to your university or College. The loan repayments only start once you have finished your course and are earning £26,575 a year or more. Both full and part-time learners can apply.
If you are eligible, you can apply for a Maintenance Loan too. The loan is paid directly into your bank account at the start of term. The loan repayments only start once you have finished your course and are earning £26,575 a year or more.
Maintenance Grants are paid into your bank account at the start of term. You don’t have to pay it back, but any funds you get will reduce the amount of Maintenance Loan you are eligible for.
New students must prove they have been living in the UK for five years before their course start date in order to get living cost support from Student Finance England.
